Shopee is the eighth most visited site in Malaysia and the first in its e-commerce category, according to Similarweb’s September 2026 ranking. Second in that category is a classifieds site, Mudah, ahead of Lazada, and Pinduoduo and TikTok Shop complete the top five. Property has its own portals in PropertyGuru, iProperty and EdgeProp, while AirAsia and Malaysia Airlines are the home names among the leading travel sites.
With a Malaysian exit, teams track ringgit prices and seller counts on the marketplaces, follow asking prices on Mudah and the property portals, compare fares for fixed dates, and check what their own site shows a Malaysian visitor. Google handles 91.22% of searches and Bing 5.66% (StatCounter, September 2026), and the most visited news sites publish in Malay, English and Chinese, so a search or content check often needs more than one language setting.
DOSM estimates 34.39 million people in 2026 across 13 states and three federal territories. Selangor alone holds 21.7%, and with Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya 28%. Fixed lines follow the cities: over 60 per 100 premises around the capital, about 27 in Sabah.
| State or territory | Population, 2026 | Fixed broadband per 100 premises | Region key |
|---|---|---|---|
| Selangor | 7.45 million | 62.5 | selangor |
| Johor | 4.22 million | 47.3 | johor |
| Sabah | 3.77 million | 27.0 | sabah |
| Perak | 2.58 million | 42.6 | perak |
| Sarawak | 2.54 million | 40.2 | sarawak |
| Kuala Lumpur | 2.08 million | 64.7, all federal territories | kualalumpur |
| Penang | 1.81 million | 57.7 | penang |
Population: DOSM estimates for 2026 (OpenDOSM, published July 2026). Broadband: MCMC Facts & Figures, 1Q 2026, which reports Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan together. Region keys are the names our gateway accepts, in lowercase letters and digits.
Forty exits asked only for -cc-my, and ipinfo.io placed all of them in Malaysia, in 23 cities. Petaling Jaya led with 5, then Kuala Lumpur 4 and Shah Alam 3, with two each in Kota Kinabalu, Rawang, Klang, Kajang and Seremban, so the Klang Valley dominated.
State keys for Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Johor and Penang placed 16 of 24 exits as asked, 67%. Penang caused most of the misses: five Penang requests came out in neighbouring Perak, four of them in Ipoh. Two Kuala Lumpur requests landed in neighbouring Selangor.
City keys placed 14 of 24, 58%. Many misses were next door, such as Taman Senai for Johor Bahru or Klang for Petaling Jaya, and three Kuala Lumpur exits came back under district names inside the city. For Penang and exact cities, check where an exit landed before keeping the session.
Four networks carry nearly 99% of Malaysia’s internet users in APNIC Labs’ estimates: TM’s Unifi, the Digi network of CelcomDigi, Maxis and U Mobile.
| Network | Access | ASN | Share of Malaysian users | IPv6 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Unifi (TM) | Fixed and mobile | AS4788 | 34% | 65.6% |
| CelcomDigi (Digi network) | Mobile | AS4818 | 30% | 73.9% |
| Maxis | Mobile and home fibre | AS9534 | 22.1% | 85.5% |
| U Mobile | Mobile | AS38466 | 12.7% | 86.6% |
| TIME | Fixed broadband | AS9930 | 4.5% | 76.6% |
| Celcom (older CelcomDigi network) | Mobile | AS10030 | 2.4% | 8.7% |
| Astro | Home broadband | AS56231 | 1.5% | 78.6% |
| Yes (YTL) | Mobile | AS45960 | 1.4% | 64.2% |
| Starlink | Satellite | AS14593 | 0.4% | 51.0% |
User shares: APNIC Labs, 24 October 2026. IPv6: proportion of a network’s users with IPv6, averaged over the 30 days to 25 October 2026. Celcom’s own AS10030 carries 2.4% of users and Digi’s AS4818 30%, which suggests most CelcomDigi traffic now leaves through the Digi network. Of the 40 exits placed in Malaysia in our residential sample, TM gave 26, Maxis 5, TIME 2, and Digi, Astro and SDEC one each. Read the ASN of every exit you keep.

Penang was the state our test missed most, so the example asks for it, reads back the city and keeps the session only on a match.

https://ipinfo.io/jsonHow many of each network’s users have IPv6, as APNIC Labs measured it over the 30 days to 25 October. Nationally it is 72.7%.
Twelve mobile test exits on 26 October 2026 split Digi 6, Maxis 3 and U Mobile 3, all networks where most users have IPv6. The older Celcom network is the outlier, at under 9%. MCMC counted 29.3 million 5G subscriptions in the first quarter of 2026, about two thirds of all mobile broadband subscriptions.
Malaysia runs on a single offset, UTC+8, but geolocation uses two time-zone names for it. On our test lookups ipinfo.io returned Asia/Kuala_Lumpur for an address in Klang and Asia/Kuching for one in Kuching, Sarawak. A check that expects Asia/Kuala_Lumpur for every Malaysian exit will flag Sarawak exits that are behaving normally; compare the UTC offset instead.
Coverage differs between the peninsula and Borneo. MCMC’s figures for the first quarter of 2026 put 5G population coverage at 82.4% nationally, 97.8% in Kuala Lumpur and 96.9% in Selangor, against 69.0% in Sabah and 63.8% in Sarawak. Fixed broadband reaches 27.0 lines per 100 premises in Sabah, less than half the Selangor rate. Kota Kinabalu gave two of the 40 exits in our sample; when Borneo matters, ask for -st-sabah or -st-sarawak directly.
The Personal Data Protection Act 2010 governs personal data used in commercial dealings, and its 2024 amendments came into force in stages during 2025. Since 1 June 2025, as ASEAN Briefing reported, organisations have needed a data protection officer, must report data breaches and must honour data portability requests. Prices, stock and listings are the safe core of Malaysian projects; names, phone numbers and profiles are personal data.
Since 1 January 2026, MCMC’s class licence for social media and internet messaging services has required foreign platforms to keep a Malaysian representative for takedown and data requests. MediaNama reported that from 1 June 2026 those platforms must stop under-16s from opening accounts and check age against official ID. Use Malaysian exits for your own accounts within each platform’s rules; reaching content that Malaysia blocks through them is not supported.

An exit with a Malaysian address, so sites respond as they do to people in Malaysia: ringgit prices, local sellers, Malaysian search results and the Malay, English or Chinese versions of a page. You need one when the Malaysian version is what you are measuring.
760K+ residential IPs in the pool, October 2026, a figure that shifts daily as household connections come and go. Mobile exits come from Malaysia’s carriers; we publish no mobile IP count.
Yes: -st-penang, -st-sabah, -city-petalingjaya, -city-johorbahru and the other keys listed above, where available. On 26 October 2026 ipinfo.io placed 16 of 24 state requests (67%) and 14 of 24 city requests (58%) where asked, so verify each exit before relying on it.
Mostly TM’s Unifi: 26 of the 40 exits placed in Malaysia in our sample, then Maxis and TIME. Mobile exits came from Digi, Maxis and U Mobile. Network keys exist only for the US, UK and Germany, so read the ASN of each exit before you rely on it.
Use rotating residential exits for prices, listings and search, and mobile exits for apps and the phone view; Malaysian mobile page views split 55.17% Android and 44.71% iOS (StatCounter, September 2026), so test both. Pick an ISP proxy when one fixed address must last through long sessions on your own accounts within platform rules.
Using a proxy for public, non-personal data such as prices is normal practice. Personal data falls under the PDPA, and large platforms answer to MCMC’s licensing rules. Using Malaysian exits to reach blocked content is not supported. This is not legal advice.
With a free proxy you cannot see who runs the server, what it records or whether it changes the pages it returns, and its address may sit on a hosting network. Look it up with the IP checker first and keep passwords and private data off it.
Host gate.aeonproxy.com, port 7000, login with -cc-my: in a browser’s proxy settings or an extension, or in code as in the Python tab. A free trial exists; the pricing page has the current terms.
In our test ipinfo.io placed five Penang requests in neighbouring Perak, four of them in Ipoh, and databases often disagree at this level. Retry with a new session key and keep the first exit placed in Penang.
Sabah and Sarawak use the same UTC+8 offset as the peninsula, but databases label Sarawak addresses Asia/Kuching. Compare the UTC offset; the zone name differs.
Measured on 26 October 2026, the deck exits above showed 169 to 189 ms of round trip between the exit and Frankfurt, where our gateway runs. Add the target site’s own response time.
