Why Lesotho

South African shops next to local job ads

Shops

Store prices that follow the visitor

Cashbuild’s shop says all products and prices are for the selected store, offers Lesotho in its country menu and guesses the nearest store from the visitor’s IP. In Ahrefs’ October 2026 list for Lesotho, by estimated search traffic, takealot.com, a South African retailer, is 24th and first in shopping.

Job ads

Vacancies across the districts

Jobs in Lesotho prints each post with its town, qualification and closing date, from Maseru to Butha-Buthe and Mafeteng. A WHO post states a salary of LSL 590,378.

Bundles

The LCA counted 166 telecoms services on 31 March 2025, 105 from Vodacom and 61 from Econet. Econet’s site sells 1GB for a day at M20.00 and 3GB for three days at M70.00.

Search

Google on phones, some Bing on desktops

Google took 94.23% of searches in Lesotho in October 2026 and 98.16% on phones, while Bing reached 15.20% on desktops. Phones made 63.28% of page views, and Android ran 89.68% of those (StatCounter). For rank checks, use SERP proxies.

Coverage

Maseru, Leribe and Berea hold over half of Lesotho’s people

The Bureau of Statistics counted 2,007,201 people in the 2016 census, and Maseru’s urban area alone had 17.12% of them. The census of April 2026 is still in data processing, with no results out on 3 November 2026. A login picks the country, -cc-ls; the dashboard generator shows any districts and towns on offer.

Population: Bureau of Statistics, 2016 census, tables as printed by citypopulation.de. GeoNames adds “District” to some names, as in Maseru District. Exits, where available, come from towns such as Maseru, Hlotse, Mohale’s Hoek, Teyateyaneng and Mafeteng. Our IP checker shows the town an exit gets; check it before you rely on one, since databases can place an address differently.

Networks

Vodacom and Econet, then a few licensed ISPs

Vodacom reaches 52.62% of users in Lesotho, and Econet’s two ASNs reach 49.32% and 8.99%, or 58.31% added together. Comnet, Jenny, Leo and LEC Communications, all on the LCA’s licence list, have under 2% each.

IPv6: APNIC to 2 November 2026, when 0.33% of users were IPv6-capable, up from 0.08% a year before. Satellite and content-delivery networks are left out. GeoLite places most of Jenny’s addresses in South Africa. Lookups name the network through the ASN, since ISP and carrier keys are for the US, the UK and Germany only.

Mobile market

Mobile numbers in use: Vodacom and Econet

The LCA’s annual report gives no subscriber split by operator. Its numbering table shows 1,695,927 Vodacom numbers and 757,021 Econet numbers in use on 31 March 2025, a date when the country had 1,663,022 mobile subscriptions and 2,496,269 registered SIM cards.

LCA, Annual Report 2024/25. The two shares are our own arithmetic, each operator’s numbers in use as a part of the two together, and numbers in use run above active lines. Vodacom Group reported 1,734,000 customers and 991,000 data customers in Lesotho on 31 March 2026, counting anyone who used a service in the past three months.

For developers

A Lesotho exit that reads LS, and a currency label for each price

Each try opens a one-hour session on -cc-ls and keeps it only when the lookup says LS. currency() marks a printed price as LSL or ZAR, because local and South African sites print different labels.

A Lesotho quirk

M, R and LSL: three labels at one exchange level

The Central Bank of Lesotho pegs the loti to the South African rand and issues both to commercial banks, and gov.ls lists both under currency. The Bank of Namibia gives the peg as one to one, so a page can show either sign for the same amount.

The labels vary by site. Econet writes M20.00, Lesotho Times M80 million and Jobs in Lesotho LSL 590,378, while AutoTrader prints R 259 950 and Cashbuild R44.95. Store each label as printed.

Local addresses are scarce: the LCA recorded 665 .ls domain registrations in 2024/25, and Ahrefs’ public top 100 for the country shows two .ls addresses against five .za ones.

Personal data, SIM registration and the cyber bill in Lesotho

The Data Protection Act, 2011 (Act No. 5 of 2012) took effect on publication in the Gazette of 22 February 2012. Section 17 says personal information is collected from the person concerned, with exceptions for public records and for details the person has deliberately made public. Section 55 sets a fine of up to M50,000, up to five years in prison, or both. The Data Protection Commission it creates had not been appointed, according to Data Protection Africa’s factsheet of March 2025. Collect prices, counts and dates, and leave names and numbers in ads behind.

The Computer Crime and Cybersecurity Bill came back in 2024 and was still in consultation in December of that year; we found no record of its enactment by 3 November 2026. Under the SIM registration regulations (No. 141 of 2021), unregistered cards were deactivated after 30 April 2024. Nothing we read names proxies or VPNs, though we could not open the Communications Act 2012 itself. LCA licensing covers internet and value-added services, so reselling access inside Lesotho through AeonProxy is not supported. Betting sites rank high in the country’s search traffic and are not a supported use.

Not legal advice. Court decisions on scraping, 2022 to 2026, are in our guide.

Lesotho proxy questions

It carries your requests through a home or mobile connection in Lesotho, most often on Vodacom or Econet, and a site then treats you as a visitor from there. People use a Lesotho IP address to see which store and price a South African chain offers them, read local job ads and follow gl=ls results.

6K+ residential IPs in the pool, October 2026. Homes come online and leave, so that figure shifts. We publish no count for mobile IPs. Vodacom and Econet carry the mobile exits where the pool has them, and the order page shows what is available.

Logins choose the country alone, -cc-ls. The dashboard generator shows any districts and towns on offer, and town placement is where available. Before you rely on a town, open the exit in our IP checker, because geolocation databases disagree at that level.

Exits come from homes and phones on Vodacom and Econet, by far the largest networks, and on Comnet, Jenny, Leo and LEC Communications. Fixed broadband is rare: the LCA counted 9,237 subscriptions against 1,472,224 on mobile networks. Only US, UK and German logins have network keys, so read the ASN in a lookup to see which you got.

Both, where the pool has them. The LCA says the two dominate the market. AS37057 is Vodacom; AS33567 and AS33767 are Econet. The login cannot ask for one of them.

Lesotho has two options, residential and mobile, and the order page lists the countries with static IPs. Choose rotating residential for shop prices and job ads, and mobile, $0.50 dearer per GB, to see operator pages and apps as phones do. A sticky session of up to 6 hours fits your own accounts, run within each platform’s rules.

Sign up, then order in the dashboard. Residential starts at $3.49 per GB and reaches $1.69 from 1,000 GB; mobile starts at $3.99 and reaches $2.19. ISP and datacenter IPs, at $4.00 and $2.00 per IP per month, are sold only in the countries the order page lists. The pricing page has every tier and the free trial’s current terms.

Nothing we read names proxies or VPNs, and we could not open the Communications Act 2012. The Data Protection Act, 2011 governs personal data you collect, with a penalty of up to M50,000, five years in prison or both. The cyber bill was not law in any source we read. Not legal advice.

A free proxy puts a stranger’s machine between you and the site, and it can log the traffic, passwords included. A lookup shows part of the picture: AS37057, AS33567 or AS33767 with country LS is a line in Lesotho, while a hosting firm in that field means a rented server.

Your HTTP proxy is gate.aeonproxy.com, port 7000, with the username ap_a1b2c3-cc-ls and your password. Append -sid-msu01-time-7200 to the username to keep the exit for two hours. The docs cover SOCKS5.

Either. Local sites write M or LSL, and South African sites write R. The Central Bank pegs the loti to the rand and the Bank of Namibia gives the rate as one to one, so M20.00 and R20.00 are the same amount. The Python tab labels each price.
